So at the end of the poorest month of the year, an incredibly cheap recipe fits well. This soup is also fantastically good, a real Swedish classic.
Ingredients
4 dl yellow peas
water
1-2 carrots
1 yellow onion
1 tsp thyme
1 bay leaf
3 allspice grains
Accessories
mustard
Do like this:
- Put the yellow peas in water for about 10 hours.
- Drain and rinse the peas.
- Peel carrots and onions.
- Place all ingredients in a saucepan. Put in the carrot and onion whole. Pour in water to cover and a little more.
- Cook until the peas are done. Stir occasionally and add water if necessary. Pick up the carrots and onions before they fall apart. I boiled the soup for about 3 hours and then got a wonderfully thick soup with well-cooked peas. Remove the allspice and bay leaves before serving.
Serve with mustard. Bread or crisp bread with cheese is always good.
